1.2         Based on the vocabulary you learned on page 15, exercise A, write a paragraph using at least 8 British travel-related terms. If you wish, you may use other words that you know or find on the Internet. When you are done, write the same paragraph in American English. Post both paragraphs on your e-portfolio.

 American English

Two years ago I had a special business trip. I am journalist and I went to Cartagena because I had to write a report about a health congress.

But, all started bad because I was going late to the airport. So I went so fast in my car by FREEWAY and when I arrived to the airport PARKING LOT I crashed with other traveler. So I had to pay some money.
Next I forgot my CARRY-ON BAGGAGE in the car but I was going late and I couldn´t return for it. After I discovered a long queue at check in and I had to buy a COACH CLASS ticket  and I didn't get a ROUND TRIP ticket so I just could to buy a ONE WAY TICKET because there was a overbooking of seats. When the I finished the check-in I needed a REST ROOM but I spent a lot of time searching one and I was close to lost the fly.

When I finally landed in Cartagena I searched the DOWNTOWN and I went to the lecture.

British English

When the I finished the check-in I needed a PUBLIC TOILET but

I spent a lot of time searching one and I was close to lost the fly.

When I finally landed in Cartagena I searched the CITY CENTRE and I went to the lecture.

3.1 Open your Market Leader book on page 17 and read the article “Road ragers in the sky.” Do exercises A, B, C, and D from the “Reading: Air rage” section on page 16.

A.   Answer these questions before you read the article.

1.         What was your worst experience when travelling by air?

My worst experience travelling by air was because I have panic the airplanes. Then, I am afraid always and I hate flying. I scare when the plan takeoff and when the plane landed.

2.          Why do some people get angry when they are travelling on a plane?

I think can be for several reasons. Sometimes when the people travel have troubles as losing luggage, losing the fly, etc.

Activity 4

Write a text where you describe 1) a positive travel experience and 2) a negative travel experience that you remember. (250 to 350 words). Send the text to one of your team mates. Ask her/him to give you feedback and correct your text. Re-edit your text and submit it on Blackboard.

 Positive and negative travel experiences

In my mind I have several positive travel experiences. I really love organizing journeys, search hotels and tours, and compare places and prices.

Always I have a trip I use internet to look over the destination and traveler experiences with a specific place or hotel. For example, I check Tripadvisor, where the people can vote about the hotel services.

However, I prefer the journeys by earth and hate travels by air. For this reason, one of my favorite trips was when I went with my family to Melgar. This place gives me relax moments and I love spending time with my parents.

On the other hand, I have not had many bad trips, but I remember one uncomfortable journey. When I went to El Salvador, I had to take two flights and I passed badly because I hate travelling by air. Thus I have to take a tablet to sleep and I was close to lose my last flight because I had very tired.

A.      Philipa Knight , Sales director at the Fashion Group in New York, makes two telephone calls to Maria Bonetti, a fashion buyer in London. Listen and note the purpose and result of each call.

B. 

PURPOSE; Philippa wants to make an appoinment next week with Maria.

RESULT: They will meet next Wednesday at 2 o'clock.

    Philippa: I’m calling because I’ll be in London next week and I’d like to make an appointment to see you.  I want to tell you about our new collection.

Maria: Great, What day would suit you? I’m fairly free next week, I think.

Philippa: How about Wednesday? In the afternoon? Could you make it then?

Maria: Let me look now. Let me check my diary. Yes that’d be no problem at all. What about 2 o’clock? Is that OK?

C.

PURPOSE: Philippa wants cancelling the meeting with Maria because his planes is delayed.

RESULT: Phlippa waits the call from Maria to reschedule the meeting.

Receptionist:  Thank you. I am putting through. Hello, I’m afraid she’s engaged at the moment. Will you hold or can I take a message?

Philippa: I’ll leave a message, please. The thing is, I should be meeting Ms Bonetti at 2 pm, but something’s come up. I’d like to meet her tomorrow. Preferable in the morning. Could she call me back here the hotel, please?

Receptionist: Certainly. What’s the number, please?

Philippa: It’s 0207585134.

5.2 Interactive activity #2( objeto de aprendizaje No. 2) : In this interactive activity, you will need to select the most informal way of addressing an interlocutor. Do the same with the various examples.

6.1a. Open your Market leader book on pages 20 and 21: Analyze the situation and follow the instructions listed below.

- Write a list of everything you need to consider in order to book a hotel for the seminar. Analyze various offers and options. Choose one option. Make a final decision.

-Write a quote from every hotel listed on page 21. The group will choose a secretary to write down the quote.
